Is Your Life Caught Up In a Storm?

Life can be easy when things are going your way.

Sooner or later, however, you’ll have to deal with setbacks.  These come in many forms – such as losses, disappointments, and failures.

As the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said, “Into each life some rain must fall.”

When you’re dealing with mere “rain” in your life – such as occasional challenges – you may be able to cope with it on your own.  If not, you may be able to do so with the help of friends and family.

But what do you do when you’re in the middle of a storm?

Wouldn’t it be nice if life only threw you challenges you could handle?  If life gave you time to bounce back before the next one came around, that would be even better.  But life doesn’t always work that way.

“Storms” in life take many forms.

Some are emotional storms.  When these occur, you get battered by moods like depression, hopelessness, anxiety or anger. At such times, your mind is likely filled with all sorts of negative thoughts.

You can also go through a relationship storm.  You may have ongoing conflict with someone important to you that you just can’t resolve.  Or perhaps the issue is a lack of connection with someone you were once close to.

Sometimes the absence of a relationship causes pain.  Perhaps you’re going though a breakup, divorce, or the death of a loved one.  Or maybe you struggle with being in relationships in the first place.  You may be struggling with shyness, anxiety or loneliness.

As if that’s not enough, there are also the challenges of everyday life.  These include job stress, financial struggles and health concerns – just to name a few.

When difficulties such as these come at you all at once, you may feel overwhelmed.  And if hang they over you for long periods of time, it can feel like gloomy, cloudy weather in your life.

When they are really intense, such challenges can become a raging storm.  At such times, you may feel alone, helpless, and hopeless.

Are you wondering whether it is time to get help?

Depression is a very treatable condition that responds well to effective, professional counseling.

Anxiety can lead to tension, worry, fear and nervousness.  It comes in many forms – including chronic worry, fear and panic attacks.  When left unchecked, it can significantly undermine your quality of life. With help, you can regain confidence and control.

Relationships can be one of life’s greatest joys when they are going well.  At the same time, they can be great source of pain when strained by unresolved conflicts, poor communication, or lack of connection.
